The purpose of the set was originally to hold the Facepiece, GM 30, and accessory equipment; however, now it may contain additional types of gas masks and accessory equipment.

The cover of the accessory cases are marked "Gasschutzvorrat 30, 38 or 38 Tp".

The set is contained in a green painted, wooden case, 16 x 13.8 x 22.8 inches. On the inside cover, diagrams and a list of contents are printed.

The box is divided into four compartments, two of which are lined with felt. One of these lined compartments contains four canisters, two tins of "Reizkörper", and one tin of Paraformsoda-Kaliumpermanganat. The other lined compartment contains one metal gas mask carrier complete with mask, canister and anti-dim disks. The third compartment contains 3 canisters and 5 gas mask carriers complete with mask, canisters and anti-dim disks. The fourth compartment contains twenty four brown plastic containers of "Haut-entgiftungsmittel (Losantin)" and one tube of "Klebstoff für Dichtringe". In addition, this compartment contains the gas mask repair kit, which is a wooden case measuring 2.1 x 6.5 x 13.6 inches. The kit is described in more details under item III–D–14.

Recent modifications of this set include gas sheets and slight modifications in the construction of the container and the gas mask repair kit.
