The purpose of this tool is to secure the eyepiece rim in place on the facepiece GM 38 during a field repair operation.

No identification markings are present.

The instrument is made of black iron and fits securely on the eyepiece rim with the two crimping jaws, about 1/2 inch wide, on diametrically opposite sides. When the "T" handle is forced downward, two connecting levers close the jaws which in turn press down the edges of the eyepiece rim fastening it to the facepiece. The tool is rotated and the operation repeated until the entire eyepiece rim is secured to the facepiece with a gas tight fit. During the operation it is neccesary to support the inside rim of the eye-piece.

Recent modifications of this set include gas sheets and slight modifications in the construction of the container and the gas mask repair kit.
