Pferdemaske 39 |
| PURPOSE: |
The purpose of the mask is to give respiratory protection to the horse during chemical warfare. |
| MARKINGS: |
The mask proper has no markings of identification value; the canisters are marked: "PFE 38". |
| DESCRIPTION: |
The mask consists of a black rubber full molded facepiece, two PFE 38 canisters which fit on both its sides, supporting leather straps and buckles and a greenish-gray canvas carrier. The outlet valve fits into the nose of the facepiece and is retained in a similar manner to the canisters, by three radial bands folding over a metal ring in the center. |
The mask is so made that the horse's a lower jaw is beneath the mask proper. To pre-vent the horse's teeth from injuring the mask, a heavy insert of rubber fabric is vulcani-zed to the bottom of the mask to form a biting pad for the horse's teeth. The back of the mask has a flap which folds inward to aid in making a thight fit with the horse's nose and jaws. |
The drawing shows size #2 of the mask, as indicated by the marking: "Gr. 2". |
