Gaspürgerät Dräger-Schröter

The purpose of this detector set is to determine the presence of chemical agents in the atmosphere.

There are no markings of identification value.

This apparatus comes in an aluminum kit and consists of an all metal double action pump, pump holder, test tubes and two bottles of solutions. The detection reactions are conducted in tubes of silica gel impregnated with potassium permanganate which gives the gel a rose color. The kit contains 3 magazines of 8 of these silica gel detector tubes each. These tubes are made of glass tubing, 1 cm in diameter and 5.9 cm in length, with one end slightly conical and painted red. The presence of agents in the atmosphere drawn through the gel produces brown rings in about three minutes; the reaction is sen-sitive to concentrations of 15 mg per cubic meter of mustard or phosgene. Schröter ma-kes no claims for the specificity of the reaction, it being general for the known agents.

There are several aluminum gas detector kits very similar to the above. There is also a wooden civilian kit labeled "Gasspürgeräte". This latter kit is used only for sampling since it contains only sampling equipment and no detector equipment.
