PURPOSE: |
This kit used to test for the presence of carbon monoxide in fortification or other en-closed places. |
MARKINGS: |
A metal plate riveted to the front of the container lid is marked: "CO-Anzeiger". |
DESCRIPTION: |
The set is packed in a black painted cylindrical metal carrier box very similar in shape and design to the metal gas mask carrier 30/38, item III–C–5. It measures 10.3 inches in height and 4.6 inches in diameter. It has an iron ring flat-folding handle fastened to the lid. |
The lid of the carrier is 3 inches deep, and contains a metal reel around which is wound a length of black rubber tubing 0.4 inches in outer diameter. The reel is fitted with a wire handle to facilitate its removal from the lid. Fitted to the bottom of the carrier is a metal spacer which holds in position the pump, the pouch of detector tubes, and two tu-bes of charcoal. |
The pump is a hollow stainless steel cylinder, 4 inches long and 0.75 inches in diame-ter; it holds both the detector tube and the colored comparison tube when a test is being made. The tubes are retained by spring clips in the bottom of the cylinder which has a section cut away to serve as a window. The detector tube is connected to the rubber bulb aspirator at the other end of the steel cylinder. The top end of the rubber bulb is provided with a metal nipple, through which the air is drawn, and to which a length of rubber tubing can be attached for drawing air from a point which is not easily accessible. |
The detector tube and comparison tube, as well as a small triangular file are contain-ed in a cloth pouch. The tubes are 4.3 inches long and 0.3 inches in diameter. Two metal tubes 6 inches long, and filled with extruded charcoal, are provided for recharging the filter element in the pump. The directions for use of the kit are also found in the carrier. |
