The pump is used to draw air samples through carbon monoxide detector tubes.

No markings for the identification of the pump are present.

The pump is a double-action piston pump made of black plastic, and cylindrical in shape. The surface is ridged and grooved to produce a non-slip surface.

The pump is 1.75 inches in diameter and 9 inches long when contracted; it is 12.3 in-ches long when extended. The pump is very similar to the Pump, Hand Gas Detector, item IV–C–7; however, it does not have the ring of six holes, with central steel spikes, used in the gas identification set for piercing the testing tubes. Instead, there is only the central hole in the pump head, into which the carbon monoxide detector tube is fitted before using the pump.

The pump may or may not be found with an olive green painted metal carrier. The overall length of the carrier is 10.5 inches, and the cylinder part of the body is 5.5 inches long. At the bottom of the cylinder there is a metal disc resting on a spring which com-presses when the pump is inserted. At the base of the cylinder there is a hinged metal arm terminating in a shallow cap at the opposite end. A metal loop is welded to the hin-ged end of the metal arm to provide a means for carrying the pump at the belt.
