The pump is used to draw air samples through the gas detector tubes.

There are no markings and identification value.

The pump is a double-action piston pump made of black plastic, and cylindrical in shape. The surface is ridged and grooved to produce a non-slip surface.

The pump is 1.75 inches in diameter and 9 inches long when contracted; when exten-ded, it is 12.8 inches long. The pump head has 6 evenly spaced holes placed around the circumference. Each of these holes has a metal spike extending from the bottom and five of these holes are marked with bands corresponding to the markings of the detector tu-bes. One hole is unmarked and is only of 1/3 to 1/2 the depth of the others; it is used for piercing only the ends of the tubes.

The pump may or may not be found with an olive green painted metal holder. The overall length of the holder is 10.5 inches, and the socket cylinder part of the body is 5.5 inches long. At the bottom of the cylinder there is a metal disc resting on a spring which is compressed when the pump is inserted. At the out-side of the base of the cylinder there is a hinged metal arm terminating in a shallow cup at the opposite end. A metal loop is welded to the hinged end of the metal arm to provide means for carrying at the belt.
