The shaker is used to hold and dispence gas detector powders.

There are no markings and identification value.

This item consists of a rectangular wooden box containing two cylindrical shakers, one filled with the pink and the other with the buff-colored detector powder. The wooden carrying case measures 15.1 x 7.5 x 14 inches and is made of gray painted plywood, 0.2 inches thick. A heavy cloth carrying handle is fastened to the top of the case; one of the sides swings open on hinges and is fastened shut by two leather straps.

The detector powder shakers may be fiber cylinders painted dark brown or field gray and measuring 5.6 inches in diameter and 10.1 inches in height. The top and the shaker is recessed 3.6 inches and a wooden rod across this recess serves as the handle for the shaker. A cloth carrying tape is also fastened across the top end of the shaker.

The bottom of the shaker is recessed 0.75 inches and is covered by a rotating disc which has 3 sizes of holes: 0.15 inch diameter, 0.20 inch diameter, and 1.6 inches dia-meter. The two small sizes are used for dispending purposes and the large size for refil-ling the shaker. The opening in the bot-tom of the shaker is covered by the solid section of the disc when it is not in use.

The metal shaker is identical to the above described fiber model axcept that it is made of unpainted sheet metal. This type is also found packed in pairs wooden contai-ners.
