S 2,4

The purpose of the canister is to filter smoke from the air drawn into a collective pro-tector installation; it is used in conjunction with a gas absorbing canister.

The side of the canister is marked in white: "S 2,4". On Auer made canisters, the comma between the "2" and the "4" is frequently absent.

The canister is a short cylinder with slightly convex bottom and top; it is painted a dark green. The overall diameter is 23.3 inches and the overall height 7.5 inches, which includes the two necks; the ton neck is a male thread 4.3 inches in diameter, and the bottom one a female thread 4.8 inches in diameter. Both necks have screw caps to close them when the canister is not in use.

The mechanical filter consists of a white asbestos filter pad, 1.4 inches thick, and confined between two #2 mash wire screens. The capacity of the canister is 2.4 cubic meters of air per minute.
