The purpose of the crib is to give the entire baby protection agains a contaminated atmosphere; it is used for babies who can't walk and operates in conjunction with a bel-lows and a VM canister.

The top of the crib is marked: "Gasbettchen - RL 1- 39/47 Vertrieb gemäß § 8 Luft-schutzgesetz genehmigt".

The crib fabric, bellows, hose, outlet and inlet valves are identical with those descri-bed under the child's protective jacket (III–Z–3). The outlet is on top of the crib just above the window and the inlet valve assembly is in the center of the foot-end. The in-side bottom of the crib is wooden, measuring 8.6 x 30 inches; the two inner wooden fra-mes on the ends have overall diemensions of 105 x 12 inches. The window on top is 8.5 inches long and 7.8 inches wide and is made of celluloid.

Just below the window on top there is a gleve sewed into the crib to permit handling the baby or arranging things inside the crib without opening it. One side of the crib opens by unfurling two flaps (top and bottom) which have wooden rods through their ends. When the flaps are rolled together, the top one on the inside, the bottom one is hooked to the top of the crib by two loops attached to the flap by coil spring tapes.

The crib is light and very easily portable.
