The purpose of this apparatus is to provide a portable means of determining the flow resistance of gas mask canisters.

The apparatus case is marked of the lid: "Prüfgerät für Atemfilter". Directions for use and manufacturers' markings may be found printed on a sheet of white paper glued on the inside of the case cover.

The portable testing equipment is enclosed in a green painted wooden case measuring 5.7 x 5.1 x 8.4 inches. The case cover, fitted with a fabric handle, may be removed from the apparatus.

The case contains a built-in air pump controlled by a lever, an indicator and a resist-ance cylinder measuring resistance of canisters in millimeters water pressure. The latter has a scale graduated in millimeters reading from 5 to 35 and mounted on a black painted resistance cylinder 1.7 inches in diameter and 3.7 inches long. Prior to operating the ap-paratus, the canister is screwed into the adapter (A) in the upper left corner and the variable resistance cylinder is removed from the packing compartment (B) and screwed over the adapter in the upper right corner. The variable resistance cylinder is adjusted until operation of the pump lever causes no deflection in the indicator and then the re-sistance is read directly on the scale of the resistance cylinder.
