COFB 38

The purpose of this canister is to provide protection against carbon monoxide for a maximum period of 40 hours. It is designed for attachment to the standard German face-piece by means of a hose.

A black band, 1.2 inches wide, encircles the canister 6.5 inches up from the base. On the top of the canister are the following markings: COFB 38 and the goverment and ma-nufacturers' markings. COFB 38 is printed in black on a white panel on the body of the canister; there are also some manufacturers' markings on this white panel.

The canister is cylindrical with several circumferential ribs, made of sheet metal 0.025 inch thick, and painted a greenish-gray. It is sealed at the top by a varnished metal, cir-cular screw cap and at the bottom by a hexagonal shaped plastic screw cap. A double strand of wire, anchored to a hole in each screw cap, forms a seal which has to be bro-ken prior to the use of the canister.

The canister is provided with a carrier mount which consists of a rectangular base plate; two black web circumferential straps which, in conjunction with the spring strips on the base plate, from a pocket for the canister; two black web adjustable shoulder straps; and a small black web strap with a metal hook which can be fastened to a waist belt. A stockinette covered rubber hose is also provided to connect the canister to the standard German facepiece.
