PURPOSE:

The purpose of this canister is to remove chemical warfare agents from the atmos-phere, and is used in conjunction with a connecting hose and facepiece

MARKINGS:

No markings or signifiance for identifying the canister are present; however, there are numerous goverment and manufacturers' markings.

DESCRIPTION:

The canister is green lacquered, ribbed, box-type, and made of tin plate, with an el-liptical cross section 4.8 x 2.6 inches, and 7.1 inches high. When new, the rectangular inlet orifice in the base is sealed with a strip of adhesive, while the outlet at the neck is closed with a metal screw cap. A rubber disc valve is located in the neck of the canister.

The sectionalized view shows the three layers of filling found in this type of canister. The top layer "A" consists of brown diatcmite brick granules impregnated with potassium carbonate and hexamine, the next layer "B" of shell or extruded charcoal, and the bottom layer "C" of a cotton mass molded around a central cone.
