PURPOSE:

The purpose of this canister is to remove chemical warfare agents from the atmos-phere, when used in conjunction with a facepiece.

MARKINGS:

Various manufacturers' and goverment markings are stencilled on the top and sides of the canister, including the identifying inscribtions, "Getränkt" and/or "Getr.".

DESCRIPTION:

There are number of types of this canister, two of which are shown, types A and B. Type B is similar in construction to the canister described under III–B–1 types 1 and 2, but differs in markings.

Type A is a green lacquered, tinplate, snout-type canister; overall height, 3.4 inches; diameter of base, 4.2 inches. The canister body is manufactured from two sections of sheet metal; the upper section consists of the externally threaded neck and the sides of the canister down to the base, and the second section conists of the base and about 0.8" of the sides which overlap that portion of the first section that reaches to the base. The edges are all rounded and the base-plate is flat and perforated.

The sectionalized view shows the three layers of filling found in this type of canister. The top layer consists of brown diatomite brick granules impregnated with potassium car-bonate and hexamine; the next layer, shell or extruded char-coal; and the bottom layer, greenish colored cottonasbestos.
