| DESCRIPTION: |
This equipment is mounted on a two wheeled, rubber tired trailer, and weighs 1750 pounds complete. The overall length is 8 feet, the height is 5 feet, and the width is 5 feet 8 inches. Fitted on the front of the trailer is a "V" shaped armor plate, 0.4 inches thick. The fuel tank holds 40 gallons of fuel, 35 of which can be pumped out during ope-ration of the flamethrower. The centrifugal fuel pump is driven by a small gasoline engine. The projector is mounted on a pivot and can traverse 90 degrees; the maximum eleva-tion is 30 degrees, and the depression, 10 degrees. |
The fuel ignition system consists of a one quart gasoline tank with an air pump, pres-sure gauge and a small pipe leading to the muzzle of the projector and terminating in a spray nozzle. Next to this muzzle is a spark plug which receives its power from the high tension coil mounted behind the armor shield. |
The flamethrower has a range of 35 to 40 yards and discharges fuel at the rate of 1.5 gallons per second and the total duration of the jet is 24 seconds. |
This model flamethrower is also used on AFV's such as the Pz.Kw. III Model L and an armored half-track; the latter vehicle has one flamethrower on each side. |
