These colored smoke signals are intended to be thrown from aircraft as signal to other aircraft or to the ground forces.

The metal container is painted the color of the smoke and has a label marked: "Ab-wurfrauchzeichen Blau (Rot or Violett)".

The painted metal container is 3.3 inches in diameter and 8 inches long with a pull ig-niter on one end projecting one inch. The signal is packed in paraffined rectangular card-board box which has a white label trimmed with the color of the signal and marked with its name as indicated above. The signal has a delay of one second and then burns for 1.5 minutes, emitting the smoke through the four vents on the fuze end of the signal.
