SIGNAL, SMOKE, COLORED, P AND M
Handrauchzeichen Blau (Grün, Rot, or Violett)

PURPOSE:

These smoke signals are sued for communication between the air and ground forces.

MARKINGS:

The "P" signal is wrapped in paraffined paper, the color of the smoke, and marked in black: "Handrauchzeichen Blau (Grün, Rot or Violett)". The "M" signal is marked the same as the "P" type.

DESCRIPTION:

The signals are packed ten to a cardboard box which is also wrapped in paraffined paper, the color of the smoke, and marked with the name of the signal. The signal mea-sures 1.8 inches in diameter and 5 inches long. When the opening tape at one end is pul-led, the match striker head and striker are uncovered. When the match head is struck with the striker, the starter mixture and upper and lower sections of the signal begin to burn, blowing off the cover on the lower half of the signal and the igniter unit on the up-per half and the colored smoke is emitted from both ends of the signal.

The "M" signal is available in the same colors as the "P" model and is lacquered the color of the signal. It is contained in a thin metal cylinder measuring 2 inches in diameter and 3.25 inches high. The slip-on cover is sealed with a strip of gummed tape and when removed, exposes the chain of the pull igniter. Both the "P" and the "M" types produce smoke of about 20 seconds.
