This grenade is launched by a rifle and contains a screening smoke, FM. |
| MARKINGS: |
|
The white stencilled markings on the nose of the grenade are as follows: "B" and "G.Gr. 42". The label on the wooden case reads: "30 Gw B Gr 42". |
| DESCRIPTION: |
|
The grenade is made of gray painted metal and has an overall length of 7.5 inches. It has a steel head and a partly rifled steel stem covered by a rifled sheet metal skirt. At the base of the stem is a cardboard cone containing a plug; the overall diameter of the grenade at the base is 1.9 inches. The grenade has an impact fuze and also a self des-troying device. It is fired from the Mauser Kar. 98K rifle using the same launcher that is used for the H.E. and A.P. rifle grenades. |

The grenades are packed in a gray painted wooden case measuring 19.8 x 9.5 x 7.1 inches, which contains 30 grenades each wrapped in blue paper. The range of the grena-de is from 100 to about 200 yards. |

The propelling cartridge is 2.7 inches long and has a yellow wooden nose which pro-jects 0.45 inches beyond the metal craing. These cartridge are usually contained in the packing cases for the rifle smoke grenade and are designated as "Gw Treibpatr. zu 1.5 g". |
