Wood float |
7.4 in. diam., recessed into top center of case prior of case prior to laying; free to rise and fall on lower sections of antenna after mine is armed |
Soluble plug fitting |
In base of antenna housing |
Operation. A safety pin is withdrawn from the base of the antenna prior to launching. When the mine is launched, dissolution of the soluble plug allows the lower section of the antenna to be forced downward, releasing the locking balls and the antenna retaining cap, and allowing the antenna to extend to its full length. The wooden float takes posi-tion depending on the buoyancy of the mine, which is then fully armed. |
The mine fires when the antenna is bent in any direction against its internal contact ring. A self-destoying clock with a maximum period of six hours is fitted. |
