The Float (Figure 230). A modified form of the float for the two-receiver unit was proposed for the AE 101, the difference being that the tube carrying the two-receiver unit was replaced by a large conical recess, the surface of which acted as the reflector. The recess had an orifice diameter of 4-1/2 times wave lentgh, thus producing a very di-rectional beam. The two magnetostriction packs were mounted in the base of the re-cess. The orifice was protected from silting up by a grill having holes of 5-mm diameter spaced 5 mm apart.
