Riechtopf

This set serves to give troops field training in detection of war gases by producing small concentrations.

The cardboard container is marked: "Riechtopf"; the metal cans of the sets are sten-cilled in red: "Kampfstoff"; and the box of igniters is marked: "9 Zündröhrchen". The metal cans are also marked with green, white, yellow, or blue crosses.

The cardboard box container holds 8 agents cans (2 white cross, 2 yellow cross, 2 blue cross, 2 green cross) and a box of 9 igniters. The metal agents cans are 2.4 inches in diameter and 1.2 inches high; attached to the side of each can is a socket for the ig-niter. When the ignition capsule is inserted into the socket and ignited, an intense heat is produced which melts the solder seal on the cover and volatilizes the chemical agent. The markings on the cans warn that they should not be ignited indoors, since the vapors are toxic.
