Sudanpapier I

The purpose of this paper is to indicate the presence of mustard gas in the liquid from by changing to a deep red color when coming in contact with it; the paper gives the same color reaction with simulated mustard. This paper is manufactured for civilian units.

The cardboard box container has a green label marked "Sudanpapier I". The label also contains the civilian marking "Kenn-Nummer: RL 1 - 38/43".

The paper consists of strips of filter paper measuring 1.6 x 4.2 inches and comes in quantities of 25 per box. The box is made of cardboard, covered with green paper, the same shade as the label, and measures 2.5 x 5.1 x 0.5 inches; the box is the slide-type, similar to a match box. The paper has a slight pink tint which is noticeable when the pa-per is held up to a strong light; either liquid mustard or liquid simulated mustard will chan-ge the color of the paper to dark red.
