The pupose of this tube is to detect the presence of mustard gas.

The tube is marked with one yellow band and may have the letter "A" stamped in the plastic near the end of the tube with the sealed end.

The tube is made of transparent plastic, measuring 2.3 inches long and 0.4 inches in diameter. The ends of the tubes may be sealed with plastic caps having a small circle stamped into the center which is slightly thinner than the rest of the cap. The tubes may also be found sealed at one end in the manner described with the exception that a small square in the center of the cap is cut out. At the other end of this tuve, the cap is recessed 0.3 inches from the end and has 3 slots cut through parallel to each other. This is the older modification of the tube. Both tubes contain 2 ampoules of a brown liquid; the older model having a plastic disc separating the two and the later model, a paper disc. Following the capsules are a layer of glass wool, a layer of silica gel and a one inch section of brown absorbent clay. The yellow band is in the center of this section.

The tube are packed in tens in grayish-green painted metal containers measuring 2.5 x 4.7 x 0.5 inches. The slip-on cover has a yellow band lenghtwise across the outside.
