The purpose of this breather set is to supply the user with sufficient oxygen when he is in an atmosphere deficient in the latter. This state can be due to fires, explosions, of high concentrations of agents in confined quarters.

Only commercial markings are present.

The apparatus fits into a steel container one side of which is concave to fit the back of the carrier; this side is also fitted with the carrying straps. The steel case measures approximately 14 x 16.5 x 6 inches and weighs 26 pounds. The case is painted gray and comes in two halves, the outside half being a cover hinged a cover hinged at the top and can be removed.

The apparatus has two rubber hoses which connect in a "Y" fitting which in turn can be screwed into the standard facepiece in place of the canister. The components of the set are as follows:

A 1.0 liter oxygen cylinder (150 atmospheres pressure) painted blue.

A lever on the breathing bag with a small spring forcing it outward to open the bag

Outlet and inlet valve between the two hoses and the apparatus.

Warning horn which sounds when the oxygen supply is dwindling.

The oxygen cylinder is held in place by a clamp at the bottom of the case and the connection of the main valve to the apparatus is made by a union. The handle to this main valve projecte through a hole in the botton of the steel case where it is easily at-tainable. This set is used both by industriy and the army.
