This mouthpiece, when used in connection with a nose clip, serves as an emergency replacement for a gas mask facepiece, and during conditions of chemical warfare, is to be fitted to a spare canister at all times, ready for use in event of sudden AC gas at-tack. This mouthpiece is intended for both military and civilian use.

No markings and identification value are present.

The mouthpiece is a plastic mould product of two types: the transparent and the yel-low. Other than the difference in the plastics used, the two types are identical. The mould is threaded internally to fit the standard German canister, a gas tight fit being en-sured by a rubber washer. A tube of oval cross-section, serving as the mouthpiece pro-per, it as an angle to the body of the mould and below this there is a solid projection serving as a chin rest for supporting the canister. On the opposite side of the chin rest piece there is a lug with a hole in it for attaching a nose clip by means of a cord. This hole might also be used as a means of suspending the mouthpiece and canister in an alert position.
