| PURPOSE: |
The purpose of this facepiece is to give the civilian respiratory and facial protection against war gases. It is used in conjunction with a civilian canister. |
| MARKINGS: |
There are no markings of any significance for identifying the facepiece. Manufacturers' and goverment markings are present, including the size, M (for men), F (for woman), and K (for children), embossed on the connecting piece and the inside of the facepiece bet-ween the two eyepieces. |
| DESCRIPTION: |
The facepiece consists of two sections: one of light green rubber, and the other, a heavier section, of green rubber; coated fabric both vulcanized together. The heavier section contains the eyepiece, outlet valve, and connecting piece, and is trimmed with the light rubber section. The head-harness consists of four long rubber straps vulcanized to the light rubber section of the facepiece in pairs at two points; and one rubber strap joining the straps at the two crowns by means of aluminum buckles. In some cases the rubber straps are only about 2 inches long and are attached to an extendable four-point webbing head-harness of the double crown design. Other variations in the construction of the head-harness may be present. The eyepiece are plastic and are held in place by aluminum eyepiece rims interlocked and crimped to the facepiece. Spring metal fastening rings hold the anti-dim discs against the inner surface of the eyepiece. |
A green lacquered aluminum connecting piece contains the rubber disc inlet valve and a threaded receiver for direct attachment of the VM canister. The connecting piece is joined to the facepiece by means of an aluminum band. A rubber flutter valve, situated above the connecting piece, serves as the outlet valve. |
