FACEPIECE, HEADWOUND
Gasschutzhaube für Kopfverletzte

PURPOSE:

The purpose of the facepiece is to protect the entire head, face, and respiratory organs of casualties with bandaged head wounds, against air contaminated with toxic agents. It is used in conjunction with an attached canister.

MARKINGS:

No markings of any significance for identifying the facepiece are present; however, manufacturer's and goverment markings are present.

DESCRIPTION:

The facepiece consists of a thin green, black, or gray rubber hood, which completely covers the head and neck, and having an overal shaped window or large eyepiece of transparent plastic material. The plastic window, measuring approximately 6.6 inches at its maximum width and 4.8 inches at its maximum height, is sealed in a heavy rubber ring that is sewn and vulcanised to the rest of the hood. On the inside of this window is a large anti-dim disc, held in place by a rubber flap circling the edge of the window. Two lengths of fabric tape, with six rubber loops cemented to the hood, are used to fasten the facepiece to both the top of the head and the neck. Located directly below the cen-ter of the window is the rubber disc inlet valve and threaded plastic for direct attach-ment of a drum type canister. To its left is a rubber-type outlet valve covered with a perforated metal grill on the outside and a wire screen on the inside. Both outlet and in-let valves also have attached rubber guards on the inside of the hood.
