GRENADE, INCENDIARY, 1 KG |
Brandstab |
PURPOSE: |
This bomb-like grenade is used to destroy aircraft, ammunition, document cases, etc., to prevent capture. |
MARKINGS: |
The nose is painted blue and marked in white: "Brandstab". |
DESCRIPTION: |
This grenade consists of a normal B1E 1 kg incendiary bomb body (item II–D–1) with the tail unit removed and the nose fuze replaced by a special fitting which houses the type 39 saftey pull-igniter, the knob of which protrudes. A length of safety fuze is inter-posed between the igniter and the primer of the incendiary composition. |
The grenade is operated by unscrewing the knob of the igniter and pulling the cord sharply, which ignites the safety fuze. The bomb is ignited after 3 minute delay. |
Another type of this grenade consists of the bomb with the tail assembly still atta-ched. The nosepiece houses a new type of pull-igniter (French). Withdrawal of the safe-ty pin releases a spring-loaded striker which fires a cap and ignites the bomb. The body of this model is painted khaki color; the nose is painted black and marked in red: "Reiss-zünder Frz". |
