GERMAN SMALL P.E.T.N. GAINE 34 WITH DELAY
(kl.Zdlg. 34 m.V.)

(Fig. 15)

The gaine is used in the 8 cm mortar H.E. bombs, Models 38 and 39, and is destinguished from the kl.Zdgl. 34 Np, also described in this Pamphlet, by the letters "m.V." stencilled in black after the number on the exterior of the gaine.

The dimensions of the gaine are practically the same as the non-delay type, the small difference probably being within the tolerance permitted in manufacture. The essential difference is in the filling of the detonator container. The difference here, as shown in the drawing, consists of two additional compositions introduced above the cup contain-ing the lead azide and lead styphnate and the use of another cup, with a flash hole clo-sed by a fabric disc, as a means of closing the top of the detonator container.

The delaying effect obtained by the combination of the gaine and the delay chamber in the 8 cm mortar bombs is reported to be approximately 0.7 of a second.
