GERMAN SMALL P.E.T.N. GAINE NO. 34
(kl.Zdlg. 34 Np)

(Fig. 14)

The gaine is used in the hollow charge 3 cm pre-engraved rifle grenades, the 5 cm mor-tar H.E. bomb and the 3.7 cm Pak muzzle stick bomb.

The construction of the gaine is similar to that of the other-types described in Pamphlet No. 6, that is, an aluminium cylindrical body with an aperture at one end which contains the detonator. The length is 0.995 inch, the diameter 0.735 inch, and the weight 6 drams. The exterior is stencilled "Kl.Zdlg. 34 Np".

The main filling, as indicated by the marking "Np", consists of P.E.T.N./wax and weighs approximately 4 drams. The detonator assembly, which closes the head end of the body and enters a cavity in the main filling, consists of a flanged container holding approxima-terly 4.6 grains of lead azide and lead styphnate over 6 grains of P.E.T.N. This initiator filling is covered by a perforated disc. The container is closed at the top by a paper disc held between a cardboard washer and the overturned top of the body.
