COMPONENTS:

The mine consists of rectangular cast iron body containing high explosive with fuze wells on two opposite sides and one end. The filling hole on the other end is closed by a disc.

Fuze: The mine is usually activated by the combination fuze M7 or by the combina-tion firing device M1, which when assembled with a blasting cap, is referred to as the M3 or M3A1 fuze.

COLOR AND MARKINGS:

The mine body and firing device are painted olive drab with markings in black to indi-cate the type, model, date of manufacture, lot number, and date of loading. The clos-ing disc may be painted yellow.

REMARKS:

(1) On the surface, the lethal range of the mine is 30 feet. If the mine is  buried only deep enough to be camouflaged, the effective lethal range is reduced to approximately 10 feet.

(2) Exposure to moisture will not affect the operation of the mine; however, it is not waterproof and should not be placed where it will be immersed in water for more than a few days.
