The Pull friction fuze M2 has a non-removable base with standard threads and can be used in standard anti-personnel mines, hand grenades, and the bangalore torpedo. |
PULL FRICTION |
GENERAL: |
This device is designed for firing explosive charges by means of a trip wire. A direct pull of 3 to 9 pounds will actuate the device. |
DESCRIPTION: |
The principal parts of the device are the black bakelite body, pull ring and spring, coated wire, friction compund, safety pin, and non-removable base. The fuze is assem-bled when issued with the safety pin inserted through the body to prevent premature ignition. |
USES: |
To activate anti-tank mines or anti-personnel mines, to supplement warning measu-res and to impede advance of enemy troops by running out trip wires connected to anti-personnel mines along a route of probable enemy movement, to set off booby traps, to set off explosive charges instantaneously when electric means are not avail-able, to prevent removal by enemy of prepared demolition charges or delayed-action mines. |
OPERATION: |
When fuze is set with blasting cap crimped to the base and inserted in an explosive charge, the safety pin is removed. A pull of 3 to 9 pounds on the pull ring will stretch the spring and draw the coated wire through the friction compound. The friction com-pound ignites and shoots a flame out of the open end of the base to detonate the blasting cap and the main charge. |
REMARKS: |
(1) An unfired device may be re-used provided it has been in a dry place. |
(2) DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE BASE FROM FURE BODY. |
