GERMAN LANDMINES, GRENADES, AND IGNITERS |
PX 32 (PRESSURE TYPE) |
DATA: |
Length: 3 1/2 inches. |
Diameter: 1 inch. |
Material: Metal. |
DESCRIPTION. The striker bolt is apparently constructed in two parts, the inner compo-nent supporting at its top end the hollow pressure cap on the top of which is a small me-tal vane. The bolt is contained in a stout casting and is normally retained in that position by a spring when the horizontal safety pin is removed. The base of this igniter is the per-cussion cap and a No. 8 detonator. Above the percussion cap is a safety device consist-ing of a small wing shaped shutter which is pivoted at one end. When the igniter is unar-med this shutter is held over the percussion cap, against the action of small spring, by the vertical safety pin. (See fig. 265.) |
OPERATION. Pressure on the pressure cap overcomes the resistance spring and shear pin and forces the striker into the percussion cap. Flame from the percussion cap ignites the detonator. |
EMPLOYMENT. Designed for use as a push or impact igniter on improvised mines. |
