BM 500. The BM 500 is a modified SC 500 bomb designed to be fitted with the DA type mine units. This mine was in the early developmental stage, and no specimens were available. No tests had been made to determine permissible dropping heights, but it was belived that with an LS 3 parachute it could have been dropped from a height of 3,300 feet at speeds of 435 to 550 m.p.h. in depths of water at least 50 feet.
