General: The Nose Fuze Mk 30 Mod 3 is the point-detonating projectile fuze. It is ar-med by creep and centrifugal force and used in spin-stabilized rockets. The fuze is desig-ned to function on impact with super-quick action. |
Description: The fuze consists of same principal parts as are in the Mk 29. The fuze is designed for super-quick action on impact. The "Off" setting is a safety feature to pre-vent premature detonation, and the setting sleeve must be turned to "S.Q." or "On" be-fore the rocket is launched. When the rocket is launched, the interrupter moves outward by creep and centrifugal force to compress the spring and open the flash tube. On im-pact, the gilded metal cap collapses and the striker is driven into the detonator, the flash of which initiates the relay detonator and the main charge. |
Mod 4: Because of inability to procure sufficient plastic ogives for the Point-Detonat-ing Fuze Mk 30 Mod 3; it was necessary to use quantities of steel ogives. These fuzes with steel ogives, designated as Nose Fuzes Mk 30 Mod 4, will be restricted to rockets. |
