Chapter 3 - PROJECTILE FUZES |
Section 1 - INTRODUCTION |
Time fuzes |
A time fuze is a device to detonate a projectile after a predetermined interval of flight. The detonation is accomplished through the burning of a variable lenght of powder train or through the action of a spring or a centrifugal clock mechanism. Only the clock-work types are currently in use by the U.S. Navy. Powdertrain fuzes were previously used but have been declared unserviceable and obsolete. |
