The purpose of the facepiece is to protect the eyes and the respiratory organs against air contaminated with toxic agents, and at the same time to allow the use of telephonic equipment. The facepiece is used in conjunction with an attached canister.

No markings of any significance for identifying the facepiece are present. Manufactu-rer's and goverment markings are present, however, including the size number, which is either 1, 2, or 3, stenciled on the fabric and/or the rubber lining of the facepiece.

The facepiece is identical in construction to that proviously described under FACEPIE-CE, GM 30, Item III–A–4, with the exception that an adapter has been inserted in the right side to permit the attachment of a microphone for a telephone connection.

The adapter (A) consists of an externally threaded, black lacquered brass ring, 1.5 in-ches in overall diameter, with an internal rubber washer. Attached to this adapter, by means of a black lacquered brass chain, is a black lacqured brass screw cap (B), 1.5 in-ches in overall diameter.
