The "Ph" in the name of #3 and #5 refers to the WP filling in the ammunition. Number 9 is an incendiary rocket projectile filled with 11 gallons of a gasoline-oil mixture. All the other incendiary ammunition contains thermite for the incendiary constituent. The desig-nation AP/I indicates the dual function of the projectile, armor piercing and incendiary; HE/I, high explosive and incendiary. The projectile #7 is a flak shell and has a detachable ogive which is held on by only four threads. The shell contains 72 incendiary components which are ignited and ejec-ted into the air followed by the bursting of the shell case. |
