1. Although this fuze arms by the rotation of arming vanes which rotate the arming screw down into the ampoule containing the solvent chemical, it is possible that the ampoule may break on impact. For this reason, this fuze must always be considered armed when found in a bomb which has been dropped.

2. Once this fuze has been identified, a carbon dioxide extinguisher should be directed onto the fuze to freeze the solvent and delay the softening of the celluloid discs.

3. While the fuze is still frozen with the carbon dioxide, remove the retaining spring clip so that the fuze may be removed as follows:

a.

Place Attachment A-3/N-4 on the fuze and secure in place, being sure that the jaw grip the fuze body below the V-shaped groove.

b.

Secure the Impact Wrench T-1/N-4 onto the attachment after having taken enough rope off of the reel to pass through the pulley system to the top of the excavation.

c.

Attach a cord to the upper end of the rope from the reel to allow the fuze to be removed by remote control.

d.

After fuze has been removed from the bomb, the bomb may be safely removed to a bomb cemetery for final disposal by:

1) Demolition

2) Steaming-out followed by demolition of exploder-tube.

4. Salvage of fuzes or bomb cases is not contemplated except as authorized by the commanding officier of the area. Therefore demolition is to be used in all cases where except such authorization is made.
