GERMAN FUZE l.Jgr.Z. 23 n.A. |
(Fig. 5) |
The fuze is used in the H.E. shell (Igr. 18) and the H.E. Al shell (Igr. 18 Al.) (for the 7.5 cm light infantery howitzer l.I.G. 18). A brief describtion of the fuze, under the designa-tion "J.Gr.Z. 23 n.A.", is included in Pamphlet No. 1. Refenrence are also made to it in the description of the 7.5 cm light infantry shell in Pamphlet No. 8. |
As will be seen by the drawing, the fuze is of the normal 23 type with an optional delay of 0.15 of a second, but has a collar weight in the form of a cylindrical iron ring below the graze pellet. The collar has a chamfered central hole to engage a corresponding sur-face on the detonator plug which protrudes from the base of the graze pellet. The collar is retained in a central position within the fuze by a holder which consists of a brass washer with arms cut and bent up to engage the wall of the collar. A lateral thrust on graze would cause the collar to move side-ways, and an action similar to that of an "All-ways" fuze would be brought about by the inclined surfaces of the collar and detonator plug. The weight of this fuze is 12 1/2 oz. |
