This gaine bears the following markings stencilled on the brass case:– |

The gaine consists of a brass cylinder with a perforated cap secured by bayonet pattern clips. |
This main brass container which is approximately 2.8 inches long overall and 0.8 inch in diameter contains a pressed pellet of milled T.N.T. weighing about 14 drs. and 2.6 inches in length. The container is coated internally with wax. A cavity about 1.1 inches in depth and 0.4 inch in diameter is pressed in the centre of the pellet. |
Detonator |
Inserted in the cavity mentioned above is a silver azide/P.E.T.N. detonator contained in a light metal sheath marked A.1239 about 0.8 inch long. The detonator is positioned bet-ween the brass cup of the outer case and the base of the cavity by a perforated cork washer at the top and a cork plug at the base. |
Action |
Flash from any igniferous system over the gaine passes through the perforations in cap and washer and detonates the silver azide/P.E.T.N. detonator and so the T.N.T. pellet. |
