This shell is fired from the 10.5 cm l.F.H. 18 gun-howitzer. The filled and fuzed shell weighs 33 lb. 1 oz. |
The streamlined shell is an annealed steel casting, machined externally overall. The cavi-ty surface is unmachined except for provision of an internal thread at the nose to recei-ve the exploder container and fuze. |
The exploder container, which is 2.9 inches deep, consists of a drawn steel cup pressed into a threaded collar. |
The single driving band is of the bimetallic type, no base plate is fitted. The empty shell and exploder container weigh 28 lb. |
Bursting Charge |
The shell is direct filled with 3.8 lb. cast 40/60 Amatol. The central exploder cavity is 6.5 inches deep, 1 inch diameter and carries below the exploder container an 85 gram card-board smoke box. This is unnumbered and contains 2 oz. 10 drs. smoke mixture of the following components:– |
